Official betting is an exciting new opportunity for sports bettors in Ohio. It started on Jan. 1, 2023, and the state has a growing number of legal and licensed sportsbooks to choose from.
Online sports betting in Ohio is available with BetMGM, Caesars Sportsbook, FanDuel and DraftKings, among others. These are the first to go live in the state, and more are expected to follow.
In-Play Rules and Data
The first two states to pass laws that govern in-play wagering, Illinois and Tennessee, have made a commitment to purchasing only “official” league data. This will ensure that to-be licensed sportsbooks have access to the most up-to-date information about the game in question, which in turn can help deliver a more immersive bettor experience.
Player Markets/Statistically Dependent markets (like Futures) are settled based on statistics that are readily available from one or more reputable statistical sources, such as the league’s official website or an official provider of that stat. Any changes in these statistics during the course of a game will not impact bet settlement.
Regular Season Player Props – For a bet to have action, the player’s opening day team must play at least 98% of the scheduled games in that season (using schedule from opening day). If the result is unequivocally determined in fewer games, the bet will not have action.
Teams in the Top of Innings – For this market to have action, all scheduled games in the relevant series must be played and go at least 8.5 innings, unless the team with the highest scoring inning took part in an official, shortened game and all other games went 8.5 innings or more.
